Connect a wallet

How to install a Stellar wallet and connect it to Spield. Supports Freighter, xBull, Rabet, Hana, LOBSTR, and Albedo.

To use Spield you connect a Stellar wallet — a browser extension (or web wallet) that holds your keys and signs transactions. You stay in control: Spield never has access to your secret key, and every action requires your approval in the wallet.

Supported wallets

Spield works with the major Stellar wallets:

WalletTypeNotes
FreighterBrowser extensionThe most widely used Stellar wallet; a great default.
xBullExtension / webFeature-rich, supports hardware wallets.
RabetBrowser extensionLightweight and simple.
HanaBrowser extensionMulti-chain wallet with Stellar support.
LOBSTRExtension (signer)Popular mobile-first wallet; uses its signer extension on desktop.
AlbedoWeb-basedNothing to install — signs in a popup window.

Don't have one yet? Freighter is the simplest place to start. Install it, create a wallet, and back up your recovery phrase somewhere safe.

Connect to Spield

Install a wallet

Add a wallet extension from its official source and create (or import) an account. Write down your recovery phrase and keep it offline.

Open the Spield app

Go to the Spield app and click Connect Wallet in the top-right corner.

Choose your wallet

Pick your wallet from the list. Installed wallets are highlighted; web wallets like Albedo always work.

Approve the connection

Your wallet pops up asking to connect. Approve it. Spield now shows your address and balances — you're connected.

Make sure you're on the right network

Development phase — live on testnet

Spield is in active development and currently live on Stellar testnet, where you can try every feature with test funds. The mainnet launch is coming soon. Where these docs mention USDC addresses, both the mainnet asset and the testnet asset are listed so you can experiment today.

Spield is currently live on Stellar testnet, with mainnet launching soon. Set your wallet to the network the app is on (today: Testnet), so you can try everything with free test funds. Most wallets switch networks from their settings in one click, and Spield will prompt you if your wallet is on the wrong one.

When mainnet goes live, the same flow applies on the Stellar public network — just switch your wallet to it.

Always verify the URL

Before connecting, double-check you're on the official Spield app domain. Bookmark it. Wallet phishing usually relies on look-alike URLs — never enter your recovery phrase into any website, ever. A legitimate site will only ask you to approve transactions in your wallet's own popup.

Disconnecting

Click your address in the top-right and choose Disconnect. This just forgets the session in your browser — your funds and wallet are unaffected.

Next: Funding your wallet with USDC.
